Sir Prize is a long gold-green apple with tender skin and a pineapple flavour. It was bred in the USA in 1961, with Golden Delicious in its complex ancestry. It is sweet, but also sharp and fruity. This variety is disease resistant and becomes ripe a few fruit at a time, making it suitable for the home garden. They are best picked just ripe, as they are soft when deeply golden. We pick them in April. Note: Sir Prize is not Surprise (a UK cooking apple from 1905).
