Delicious was a rootstock seedling found in the USA in the 1870s. It is bell shaped ("apple shaped") and stripey. At its best it is sweet, crunchy and juicy. It cooks in slices and is traditionally used for apple pies. The original tree in Iowa is still alive. Delicious trees used to be popular but were then replaced by dark red "Red Delicious" varieties. We have one tree and we pick it in late April.
